Philadelphia flights
There's much to see in the “City of Brotherly Love”. Upon arriving at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) get ready to walk! Philadelphia has been flooded with “Walk! Philadelphia” signs that guide visitors to local attractions – such as shops, restaurants and galleries. Take a stroll to Benjamin Franklin Parkway, home to the Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, made famous in the series of Rocky movies. The best time to visit Philadelphia is in the fall, late spring or early summer. Winter temperatures are frigid and summers tend to be extremely hot and humid. Though walking is encouraged, many other modes of transportation are available. Philadelphia has commuter rails, two subway lines (and a Subway-Surface line) and a PhillyCarShare program, where you can book vehicles by the day or by the hour for substantially less than you would pay to rent a car.
Once you decide on transportation, visit the LOVE Park to see Robert Indiana's “LOVE” sculpture or stop by Clark Park, an outdoor music and arts festival area located in West Philadelphia. If you're an animal lover, visit the Philadelphia Zoo. Located across the Schuylkill River, Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in America. If you're visiting during the summer months, make sure to take advantage of the “Zoo Balloon” tours, which offer gorgeous views of Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.
A must-see for any visitor to Philadelphia is the Independence National Historic Park. This notable site features the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Constitution Hall, home of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. The park also features approximately 20 historic buildings from Philadelphia's revolutionary past that are open to the public.
With all these activities you're sure to build up an appetite and no visit to Philadelphia would be complete without an authentic Philly cheesesteak. Head to Pat's King of Steaks but make sure you have the lingo down. “Wit” usually means you'd like onions on your cheesesteak (if not, make sure you say “witout”). If asked what type of cheese you'd like, Whiz refers to cheese whiz but American and Provolone are commonly available options. For dessert, local restaurants in Philadelphia feature flavored slushy ice referred to as “water ice” or “Italian ice”.
